Microsoft Discontinues Messenger, Replaces It With Skype

It has been years I believe when even today whenever I watch the early episodes of the TV sitcom Friends I imagine how cool it was to use a laptop with 500 MB of hard disk and to have messenger pre-installed on it(yes the way Chandler used to talk with Janice). Anyway what the main conclusion one can come up to is the fact that only people who had 500 MB hard disks would be using things like that and this day messenger has turned completely old school. Well to prove this point we have software giant Microsoft with its latest announcement.

The Announcement

Well after watching the Friends episode I checked my email to really get this news that now we would be able to see messenger like stuff only in this 90s shows(I’m kidding, other services do exist). The old Microsoft’s Windows Messenger is finally going to get its farewell from a lot of its users throughout the world. Yes it served really well but what we can see now is Skype, another messaging software owned by Microsoft. How would this help? Well this is the main content that I found in the email that Microsoft has sent to all of its users.

We are retiring the existing Messenger service globally (except for mainland China where Messenger will continue to be available) and bringing the great features of Messenger and Skype together. Update to Skype and sign in using a Microsoft Account (same as your Messenger ID) and all your Messenger contacts will be at your fingertips. You’ll be able to instant message and video chat with them just like before, and also discover new ways of staying in touch with Skype on your mobile and tablet.

I really have no clue as why Microsoft is not retiring Messenger from china, either the Chinese love it or they hate Skype. Anyhow, I believe Skype has some of the coolest ways as how one can communicate over the smartphone, computer or any handheld device.

Messenger As Seen in Windows XP

So I believe there are great ways as how any person would be easily able to connect with anyone around the world in a better way. Lets see how this works !

As this software first made its debut with the revolutionary Windows XP, this year both XP and Messenger would cease to exist.

So What Now?

Well, as i said you won’t be able to download or install Messenger also if you have it pre-installed you won’t be able to login into it to use in anymore. In short the whole thing is going to be shut down and when you try to login now, you’ll be prompted to upgrade to Skype for better results.

Also mobile users and Windows 8 users would be able to get Skype instead of Messenger.
